Energy Savings – that was easy

Staples Inc., one of GreenTech Energy Service’s “greenest” clients, has been awarded the 2011 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award for Energy Management. Staples came in 10% under its 2010 energy budget of $100 million dollars.

Lighting was one of the energy conservation measures that helped reach this goal, while helping the company cut its greenhouse gas emissions, reduce waste, and eliminate obsolete technology that no longer meets Federal energy efficiency standards.

GreenTech is pleased to have been part of this effort, having designed and implemented lighting retrofits in dozens of distribution centers and warehouses, and in several hundred retail stores. Obsolete lighting has been replaced by new technology that cuts energy use and costs, while improving the aesthetics of the buildings.

“Staples has carefully measured the amount of energy it has saved through all these lighting projects,” says Bob Valair, Staples’ Director of Energy and Environmental Management. “Many have cut energy consumption by nearly 50 percent, and dramatically shrunk our facilities’ carbon footprints. The projects also improve light quality, which enhances the comfort, safety and security of the associates and shoppers. The projects themselves have gone very smoothly. GreenTech’s crews are clean, quiet and efficient, and careful to work around our schedules. Last but not least, these lighting upgrades have significantly cut our utility bills. With a payback of less than two years, the projects confirm Staples’ belief that doing good things for the environment is also good for the bottom line.”

GreenTech on the Go

It’s been a month full of tradeshow activity at GreenTech. On March 15, we set up a booth at the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials’ 56th Annual Convention in Pittsburgh, which featured the largest exhibit of school products and services in the state. The following week, we set up shop at Edison Electric Institute’s National Key Accounts Workshop in Atlanta, where national retailers, hotel chains, restaurants and other multi-site companies learn about the latest energy-saving technologies. And on March 30 and 31, we will be at GlobalCon, a trade event for facility and energy managers at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. If you plan to go, please come visit us at booth # 308.

Funding for Show-and-Tell Project

Posted February 18th, 2011 by GreenTech Energy Services

GreenTech has been awarded a $142,000 grant from our utility, PSE&G,that will allow us to install a renewable energy system in our own building this summer. Our grant proposal focused on a renewable environmental system that can reduce air conditioning load by removing humidity non-mechanically. This technology will be interfaced with a hybrid solar system provided by our sister company,  New Age Energy, mounted on a single-axis tracking system, provided by Solar Tracking Systems, LLC.  The design, created by New Age Energy, is the first to combine all these technologies into an integrated system. This project will demonstrate to PSE&G customers throughout New Jersey how they can protect themselves from escalating energy costs, maximize comfort throughout a building, insure against damage from power interruption or outages, and shrink their carbon footprint.

Seeing Fresh Spring Water in a New Light

Posted January 26th, 2011 by GreenTech Energy Services

Tulephocken Spring Water recently upgraded the lighting in its Northumberland, PA facility, replacing obsolete fixtures with new energy efficient technology and installing sensors to turn lights off when areas are unoccupied. Employees report that the new lighting is crisp and white, compared to the dull yellowish light that it replaced, and the plant is saving over $6000 a year in energy and operational costs.

Decisions, Decisions

Posted January 6th, 2011 by GreenTech Energy Services

It’s easy to see if you need to implement energy efficiency measures. If your utility bills are out of control, if your lighting fixtures are so old they fail to comply with federal standards, and if your state or utility company is offering such good rebates for efficiency projects that they’re practically paying you to upgrade, it’s time! But choosing the right vendor isn’t quite that easy. Click on the following link for some advice: http://www.dailyenergyreport.com/2010/12/tips-for-choosing-the-right-energy-service-company/

Hybrid Panel a Hot Topic at Energy Conference

Posted December 14th, 2010 by GreenTech Energy Services

GreenTech presented a workshop on “Raising the Efficiency of Solar Panels” at the World Energy Engineering Congress in Washington, DC this month. The workshop focused on tracking systems that follow the sun from dawn to dusk, and an innovative new panel that generates both electricity and heat. As pictured above, water runs through tubes across the back of this panel, cooling it down to make it up to 30% more efficient. The heat, transferred from the panel to the fluid, can be transported into a building for use in hot water and heating systems.
